a richardson root beer float

We had a roll of warm days at the beginning of November, so decided to check out this place. Hamburger Heaven in Elmhurst—a hamburger/root beer stand at North and York Avenue that got its start in 1948.

The root beer brand—Richardson—has history that predates Hamburger Heaven. In 1915, Durbin and Alick Richardson incorporated their foods business in Rochester, New York. Their first product was Richie Root Beer syrup, and you can still find drive-ins and stands with the red Richie root beer sign on top.

As for the root beer float I ordered at Hamburger Heaven, it was sublime. Frothy, creamy, and lightly sweet. Highly recommend.
